The signatories of this document will support national and international studies for the continuous improvement of methodologies and analysis tools of the Wine Carbon Footprint by giving priority to: (i) the definition of those emission factors not yet recognized by the IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change), especially certain classes of agricultural medical and oenological products, (ii) the increase of regional/local studies on the vineyard absorption using the ecosystem method, allowing in the medium term to determine a specific grape's Carbon Footprint analysis for the future dissemination of protocols in order to improve the environmental performance of agricultural processes.

The signatories expect that the main trade associations, and the wine producers themselves, adhere to this "Charter of Montepulciano" to support the broadening of the Wine Carbon Footprint and facilitate the accessibility of all stakeholders in order to improve the environmental sustainability positioning of Italian wine.

Montepulciano 30/06/2011

Our participation is intended to create a roadmap for the definition of the Charter of Montepulciano for the Wine Carbon Footprint. We invite the wine research, production, communication and trading world to gather in order to lead, on a global level, the challenges for environmental sustainability.
